Yeun Song’s On Off, 2024 is a project that explores how the constraints and autonomy of art operate
“simultaneously” within the social structure of the logistics system. Twelve sculptural modules, built upon
the standardized dimensions of transport pallets, are designed as combinable and disassemblable units.
These modules shift between the “On” state—assembled and stacked atop the pallets—and the “Off”
state—dispersed freely throughout the exhibition space. Through this process, the work experiments
with how art can exist within institutional frameworks, while also transcending them to form new orders.
Originating from functional structures, the sculptures are dismantled and rearranged to form unique formal
relationships, and their interactions generate new narratives. Each work is accompanied by a set of schematic
diagrams titled the Die-Cut Series, consisting of a die-cut layout and top view, rendered at a fixed scale
relative to the original.
The Die-Cut Series translates the three-dimensional sculptural structures into precise two-dimensional
visual records, visualizing the underlying logic and algorithm of the construction process.
These diagrams act as durable traces that remain even after the physical sculptures have been
dismantled or removed, serving as a conceptual and material extension of the work.
